Martindale, Lake District, United Kingdom  September 2017

Martindale is a valley nestled in the eastern fells of the English Lake District. We look to the higher ground beyond. These are the higher fells that summon us upward.

We follow the call of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati who told us “Verso l’alto!”  or towards the heights. We are called to move upwards towards the sacred, towards the sacred places, towards our own spiritual heights.

Noah grounded the ark on Mt. Ararat,
Abraham’s hand was stayed on Mt. Moriah,
Moses met God in the burning bush on Mt. Horeb
Elijah defeated the priests of Baal on Mt. Carmel,
Jesus taught the Sermon on the Mount
Jesus’ Transfiguration took place on Mount Tabor
Jesus died on Mount Calvary

Psalm 121: A Song of Ascents.
I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.

I lift my eyes 8 x 12
